CAMP TRASH RELEASE THEIR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ALBUM "THE LONG WAY, THE SLOW WAY"

With the release of their debut EP "Downtiming", Camp Trash came booming into the scene. The Flordia-based band left us waiting with baited breath for their next release. I am happy to say that it was worth the wait! Camp Trash released their new LP, "The Long Way, The Slow Way.” The new LP, which consists of 9 new releases and 3 previously released singles, combined the best of the 90s and 2000s music. Their most recent releases, including tracks like “Weird Florida”, “Let it Ride”, and “Pursuit” tease a nostalgic alt pop-punk album, and we’re excited to tell you all about it.
Described as a blend of “90s alternative rock and 2000s emo with pop-punk sensibilities,” they prove to have perfected the genre with this album. The album, which starts with a song titled “Mind Yr Own,” provides an introduction to the genre they specialize in. The perfect mix of earlier angst and the band's modern touch helps revive the pop-punk movement. Following this song and 2 previously released singles is “Another Harsh Toyotathon,” which is a lot more angsty and relatable. This is also a perfect anthem for the oldest siblings in a sense, contemplating why right choices aren’t easy the first time something is attempted, and brings up the harsh emotions dealt with everyday life and responsibility.
Following that, we get a taste of a different Camp Trash approach with ‘Enough Explaining,’ getting into a more mellow feeling intro. Beyond the melody of the songs, we’ll find that many can relate to the meaning, expressing the idea that you have off days, so why do people always assume that means you’re sad? We’ll let you judge that. As we dive deeper into the album, we begin to notice the range of Camp Trash, especially with this following song. ‘Poured Out’ is an ode to the mourning of a person who never made you feel like they cared as much as you did and lost the hope of getting that back. Yet we transition again to an upbeat rendition of their genre, with a completely different vibe, with ‘Lake Erie Boys’, a song reminiscent of a climax scene of a 2000s coming of age movie.
We have reached the final four songs, and without getting into too much and spoiling the range of the new Camp Trash LP, I listened to ‘Soft’, ‘Church Bells’, ‘Riley’, and ‘Feel Something’ and this is what I thought. ‘Soft’ was one of my favorite songs of the album, although I continued to change my mind the more I listened to the other songs, this one was a relatable and comforting anthem for all those who feel stuck. Camp Trash uses their song ‘Soft’ to reassure you that the feeling is temporary and it will get better! ‘Church Bells’ follows this theme of emotional exploration as one grows up, recounting never feeling drained like they do now, and feeling so young at some point. In a similar form, we have ‘Riley’ which recounts the tale of trying to fit in and being so forgettable, a more mellow and emotional song than we’ve heard so far, however, it fits right into the Camp Trash genre! To conclude, we have ‘Feel Something’, an upbeat song that doubles as the perfect way to end the album and a perfect pick for the end credit scene for a 2000s coming of age film. We’ll let you be the judge of that though!
