NEWLY EMERGING ARTIST, GAYLE TAKES THE POP SCENE BY STORM AND DISCUSSES OVERNIGHT STARDOM

Picture
Newly emerging pop artist, GAYLE, has made quite the entrance into the pop scene. The 17 year old pop singer is from Nashville, Tennessee and is currently on her first tour. Right before Thanksgiving, I had the pleasure of talking with GAYLE about her new music, her impact, and her feelings about blowing up overnight. Her hit song ‘abcdefu’ has over 64 million plays on Spotify, as well as having over 13 million monthly listeners. The song itself is so relatable to everyone, especially younger teens. I feel as though most teens need an artist that relates to them and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. In today’s world, many artists get their start on the app TikTok. This was the case for GAYLE, who is only 17 and already doing massive things in the music scene.
GAYLE: “It’s such a crazy thing to happen especially when you can’t see it. It’s just on a phone. If I’m not on my phone, I can’t really see it or experience it. Then, I go on Instagram or TikTok and I’m like, what the fuck…”
Q: Did it seem like an overnight thing? Just like that?

GAYLE: “It seemed completely random. Especially because the song was out for a couple months before gaining any sort of popularity, so it really felt like…holy shit.”
GAYLE is widely considered a pop artist although, I feel like pop is an umbrella term. Mostly because all pop doesn’t sound the same. This one song, has made significant waves in all sorts of ways.

GAYLE states “I do consider it pop. Although, I would consider myself a pop artist that allows myself to have inspiration from other genres.”

It’s clear she has many different inspirations by just taking a look at her hit single. She has made about 6 versions of ‘abcdefu’ including a version that’s chill, nicer, angrier, a demo, and even one that features Royal & the Serpent. Almost all of these versions are in the top 5 spots on her Spotify and have anywhere from 500,000 listens to 64 million listens.

Gayle is definitely doing her own thing and owning it. She’s not allowing anyone to tell her otherwise. You can catch her on tour with Winnetka Bowling League until December 7th, if you’ve already seen her then you know you can’t miss it. New music from GAYLE is currently in the works so keep your eyes peeled!
(P.S. She told me she makes a good mac & cheese, I’m hoping I get to try it one day.)
