GREG HILL RELEASES HIS DEBUT BEDROOM POP EP "BETTER LOVE"

Picture
Based in Buffalo, New York, bedroom pop artist Greg Hill has released his third EP, Better Love. The four track EP confronts the topics of anxiety, loneliness, and heartbreak - something listeners can easily grab onto. Interesting to Hill’s story is his strategic use of marketing and slight misdirection. Hill enjoys recording EPs and albums, putting them out into the world for s short while, and removing them from the internet. If you want to listen to Better Love, you better act quickly!

The EP starts off with the track “Will I Ever Reach You?.” Beginning with the use of deep synthesizers, this track presents a sound as bleak as the title itself. The interlude of nearly 25 seconds of music allows the lyrics to soar. Those lyrics, although melancholy, create the create link from sonics to title. It’s a slow and dreamlike track that instantly indices you into listening to the remaining tracks.
Following is the four minute track that is “Free Yourself.” This track features the programmed drums Hill uses frequently throughout his discography. The vocals are distant and airy- unlike those of “Will I Ever Reach You?.”  The last minute of the track is pure instrumentals- an interlude that is somehow loud, but soft. It’s introspective, even as no lyrics are necessary.

The third track, “Better Love,” follows directly from the interlude ending of “Free Yourself.” As the title track of the EP, “Better Love” has a vibe somewhat similar and totally different than the ones before it. As Hill’s work is DIY, this song features brutal honesty- both in lyrics and sonics. Truthfully, it’s a testament to the power of his originality and honesty to create such a beautify rough-edged track. “Better Love” is a milk-and-honey flowing track worthy for more than its three minute running time.
The last track of the EP is “12/9,” a somber ending to the introspective ride Hill takes you on. Its quiet, but poignant- clearly painting a picture. The mellow ending leads the listener into playing the first track over again- starting the cycle anew.

If you’re looking for a new sound to vibe to, look no further than Greg Hill’s indie bedroom pop masterpiece - “Better Love.”
