Are you looking for a new favorite song? Maybe even a new band to add to your playlists? Well look no further, Marine Anthropology is an indie rock band from DC that has released incredible music in the past, in fact, I’ve already added most of their songs to my playlists. As luck would, Marine Anthropology has released a new song, called September Syndrome, that will surely touch your heart.
To the indie rock fans, I definitely recommend you look into Marine Anthropology. Even if you aren’t an indie rock fan, this band is amazing! After the countless times I’ve heard this song, I still can’t get enough of the beat, the lyrics, and the passion behind it.
“So you’re finally going away for real”

‘September Syndrome’ is a reminiscent song with a soft melody about simple matters of the heart. In ‘September Syndrome,’ we get a taste of so many emotions, including love, emptiness, missing someone, and not fitting in. Marine Anthropology did an amazing job at making me miss someone, making me remember a hard goodbye, yet not making me feel completely destroyed by it. We are introduced to love beyond distance and what it’s like to adapt to a new place when you don’t feel home.

With the message it leaves, almost like a lyrical love letter to remind someone that they always have someone, I can picture this song in a coming of age teen movie. An ode to motivating a love that is too far to touch, not a goodbye, but instead, the song sends advice and love to a homesick lover. This ‘advice’ is a series of reassurances reminding them that even if they feel alone they’re not, because they’re still in love.

Later in the song, you hear a shift in melodies, a faster beat begins to play the sudden shift of rhythm doesn’t feel wrong. You find that this shift shows a change in thinking, but even with doubts in their mind, there’s a support system, a demonstration of loving someone.

“You know that we love you, even if you mess up bad”

When I envision the mood of this song, I think of a hill, looking over the city, reminiscent of a person that would have loved the view. Marine Anthropology, with its unique indie rock influence, helps us imagine a life in which we’re able to see what love can surpass first hand. With emotion in their music, you see the reality and passion that Marine Anthropology introduces to their music, which is why I totally recommend them.
