ROYAL HEARTS RESUSCITATES POST-HARDCORE WITH "FAIRWEATHER" RELEASE
7/30/20 Written By Alexia Abarca & Lou Watson

Post-hardcore heavy hitters from South Florida, Royal Hearts, released their new cavernous track, “Fairweather.” We may be biased, since we already have a soft spot for post-hardcore bands, but “Fairweather” is undoubtedly a song we’d recommend adding to your playlist.

Isolation and social distancing can be tough for many, but we found that rocking out to albums from our childhood days has been an extremely therapeutic coping mechanism. Fitting with that feeling of tearing up our rooms and screaming “it’s not a phase mom!,” the only way to describe this track would be an exciting reawakening of the nostalgic hardcore bands of our youth. Relating to albums such as, “Daylight Dies” by Killswitch engage, “They’re Only Chasing Safety” by Underoath, and we especially feel that it’s reminiscent of Silverstein's albums “A Shipwreck In The Sand” and “Discovering The Waterfront,”  Fairweather fits this mold, making us reminisce on our adolescent years.

The track begins with a raw yet beguiling guitar melody, almost ensnaring you to flow with the meandering riff. The progression of this track seems like a storm beginning with a cloudy day, eventually becoming a hurricane.
As the heavy double pedal drums and hulking bass kick in we’re steered away from the dreamy guitar, and are met with a more Metal theme, like being stung by the harsh pouring rain and turbulent winds. Right before getting into the vocals, the tempo and chord progression changes, hinting at a more pop-punk tune, but then retreats back towards a their rigid flow. Then we’re met with the thunder.
When the movement of the vocals finally circulated through our ears, we were surprised to hear forcefully-sung metal vocals and immediately were engaged with the hardcore breakdown. We are then welcomed with striking pop punk vocals, making us want to mosh in our rooms twice as much.
Something that we haven’t heard in a long time is the track ending abruptly, but was executed so perfectly. Just after the last chorus leading into the outro there’s a feeling of a poem being performed. It holds so much power and angst, and leaves us wanting more.

We know their live shows are absolute crowd pullers, and we can’t wait to thrash in the pit when they’re back on the road. Royal Hearts intends to fulfill our hankering for more music with their EP “Within Reach” set to be released in August. We highly enjoyed this track, and can’t wait to hear what they have instore on the EP.
If you are scrounging around for new music, we recommend giving Royal Hearts a quick listen. Who knows, maybe they will become your new favorite band. We know for sure that these South Florida rockstars will be on our playlists for an indefinite amount of time.
