Gloomy June releases unapologetically self-reflective single “Save Anyone"

San Francisco indie-pop band Gloomy June released their new single “Save Anyone” on March 17th and it draws clear inspiration from the lead singer Alexi Belchere’s personal experience during the pandemic.
“I was inspired to write the song when my partner was forced to move away because of the pandemic, and when I say I was “inspired” I mean heartbroken and trying to console myself,” said Belchere.
“Save Anyone” is reminiscent of early 2000s indie pop combined with the angst of pop-punk. However, this single is a breath of fresh air in the indie-pop scene. The entire song has a hypnotic beat that works in tandem with Belchere’s devastatingly gorgeous voice.
The first single of Gloomy June’s upcoming EP “Popsick” feels almost nostalgic of a pre-pandemic era when everything didn’t seem so gloomy.

“Gloomy June is the soundtrack of a beach party tinged with melancholy: sometimes anthemic, often queer, and always a little tragic,” said Belchere.

It is clear that this band seeks to encapsulate the feeling of being “othered” through this song. Belchere almost begs the listener to understand her angst and drama but is quite literally overshadowed by the backing instruments and infectious beat of the guitar and drums.
Gloomy June is a clear example of a group of artists coming together to create something so eerily perfect that it simply would not work with any other group. “Save Anyone” is sure to be stuck in your queue and head for hours after listening to it.

You can catch Gloomy June on their West Coast tour this spring.
