Sleeptalk, Southern California based quintet consitisting of Anthony Fitzpatrick, Justin Melchor, Paul Mcgill, Jason Fitzpatrick, and Tyler Kusnier, released their new jaw dropping single “100x” on August 28th, leaving fans (including us) astounded by the spacey, atmospheric melodies and cavernous lyrics that make up the track.
The band made a name for themselves in the alternative pop scene, but with their last release, “Trouble,” Sleeptalk dove into a new genre realm, as the track was filled with upbeat, experimental electronic tones, giving us “Electric Feel” by MGMT vibes. “100x” doesn’t stray far from that. However, the single contains both the hypnotizing electronic synths we’ve been exposed to as well as paying homage to the alt-pop tones we know and love, creating a perfect and unique mixture of sound for Sleeptalk.

100x begins with what sounds like the song taking a breath into a new beginning, but it quickly makes a collision with an atmospheric guitar riff and dreamy drum pattern. This gives the track a transcendent feeling, as if we’re about to take an astral trip to another world. The vocals come in just shortly after and follow that same day-dreamy soundscape; giving us that euphoric release from the chaotic state of the world that we so desperately need. The ambience of the vocal styling reminds me of “A Change Of Heart” blended with the guitar styling from “The Sound” by The 1975. The first note is already extremely captivating, as if they’re enchanting you to keep listening to the airy, spacey tune.

"100x’ is about trying to convince your close friend that no matter how much your opinion on something might be hurtful, you are telling them because you want what’s best for them.”

There is something about this song that I just can’t find the words for. Going into the chorus, hearing the tone of the lyric “Imitating our youth just to find the words” sounds vastly soothing. It creates a calm and gentle atmosphere that you can relax and vibe to. My favorite part about this track is that it makes people think about the different experiences they’ve shared with others. For example, for me the spacey feel of this tune makes me daydream about the times my significant other and I would take long drives from LA to Dana Point, staying out late on the beach, talking about anything and everything we could imagine. Those are memories I hold very dear to me and having something that reminds me of those past times feels like a breath of fresh air. This single is quite literally the song of the summertime, well a quarantine summertime.
The single takes one last breath and slowly fades out with one final guitar strum and the lyric “... I’ve said it 100 times,” giving us a look at what line created the title, perfectly wrapping up this dreamy, ethereal track.

Sleeptalk has proved to discharge themselves from one specific genre while simultaneously creating and promoting their art on their own from start to finish, making it much more heartfelt. They are not strangers when it comes to showcasing raw emotion intertwined into their lyrics, enhancing their sound each time. This SoCal group has continuously surprised us with each single that has been released, each song having their own unique rhythmic pattern. Sleeptalk is on the rise to the next level, and are definitely a band to look out for. If you like music that is filled with euphoric, beautiful flowing melodies and good vibes or if you just need an escape from the chaos of the world, I suggest checking out “100x” and Sleeptalk’s entire discography. We can’t wait to see what Sleeptalk has next hidden up their sleeve, but we know one thing; that it won’t disappoint.
