BONSAI TREES EXCITE FANS WITH "HOPE YA DO" MUSIC VIDEO RELEASE
On Friday October 1st, Bonsai Trees, an indie rock band from Hartford, Connecticut, premiered an amazing music video for their latest single “Hope Ya Do”. Before the music video came out, this single was released this past summer on July 30, 2021. It is their first release since their previous full-length album Learn To Grow in 2019.
After the departure of some of their previous members earlier this year, Bonsai Trees has primarily been James MacPherson- the singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the band. However, recently new members have been added to the band- drummer Will Szwec and background vocalist/ bassist Jorge Portero. They will be supporting James with all upcoming shows throughout the end of October.

“Hope Ya Do” was directed by Joy Wagner, who has directed all of the band’s videos for the past eight years. The video features James singing the song in various crazy situations. As soon as the video starts, we see him tied up with rope on train tracks, already making us wonder what's going on. Other parts of the video features him playing on a dock on a lake, dressing up in party attire, putting a pillowcase over his head, and holding a bouquet of flowers while intensely looking into the camera the entire time asking the listeners to love him. This music video is insanely chaotic and fun to watch. The video will make you question what’s happening while watching, but ultimately leave you smiling.
This song is upbeat and very catchy, and is the perfect first single for an album that hopefully Bonsai Trees will write and release soon. The video is so weird and unique, and will definitely catch the attention of anyone who comes across it. The song itself is very indie pop sounding and lyrically hopeful, which creates an interesting juxtaposition between how weird the content of the video is. You’ll find there are cute subtitles that link together details happening in the video and the lyrics, though. For how crazy and disorganized the video seems, it is cleverly made.
Make sure to check out Bonsai Tree’s social media to find their show dates for the rest of the month, and support them. “Hope Ya Do”, as well as the rest of the band’s discography, is available everywhere music is streamed.
