7/20/20 Written By Alexia Abarca

If you have been craving new music since the beginning of quarantine like us, Easy Life rolled in to satisfy all of our sweet tooth’s with their new single, “Pop Tarts.”  The Leicester native alternative quintet dropped a two-tracked release called “who gives a f**k?” which features old time favorite, “Nightmares” alongside the fresh new single. In addition to streaming the song, it will be available to listen to on a limited edition 7’’ vinyl release of “who gives a f**k?,” which you can preorder now on their website.

As we are introduced to the feel-good track, electronic vocals fill our ears which is a new and different sound for avid Easy Life fans. The soothing thermionic chorus reminds me of MGMT’S “Electric Feel,” and feeds my early 2000’s nostalgia. It makes me want to remember the times I would drive down the West Coast watching the sunset with my significant other. As the song continues to play out, we can see that they do not stray far away from their usual tranquilizing and soft sounding vocals, continuing to give us a Mac Miller type of vibe. MGMT & Mac Miller sounds like a strange mix, but I can guarantee that there is just enough of these two artists stirred into a bowl to give Easy Life their own unique sound. The Leicester five-piece created a perfect blend of Jazz and Hip-Hop melodies, showcasing their idiosyncratic and newly developed sound.

Although “Pop Tarts” pays homage to their earlier singles, it shows that Easy Life isn’t afraid to wander, deviate from their older melodies and explore a new rhythm. With the release of  “who gives a f**k?” and of course their mix tape “Junk Food” and the “see you later maybe never” demos, Easy Life has given us just a slight taste of what they have planned for their upcoming LP.

While “Pop Tarts” was just a tiny sliver of what they have lined up, it really ossifies the sound that we can expect to hear from them. At the end of “Pop Tarts,” you can hear subtle and fun banter, which only makes us wonder how much of that has gone on in the process of recording their upcoming releases. As they continue to tease their upcoming debut album, we can only get even more excited for what is coming up next from Easy Life and we know it will not disappoint.

Easy life were supposed to go on their upcoming US tour later this year, but with the current state of the world we no longer know when shows will come back. If you have not yet got around to listening to Easy Life, what are you waiting for! I highly recommend adding their discography to your everyday playlists, and taking a look at the art they are so passionate about.
