8/4/20 Written By Alexia Abarca
After an anticipated return, Eerie Shores is back with a new single. Eerie Shores is an alternative rock/metal group from Buffalo, New York. The four piece group have been working hard since the release of their EP. Now, they have come crashing back with their new track, ‘Cover Me.’ Eerie shores are no strangers when it comes to showcasing raw emotion intertwined within their lyrics, but ‘Cover Me’ is a whole step up from the usual sound we hear from the band and definitely recommend adding this angsty track to your everyday playlists.

When we first heard ‘Cover Me,’ it felt like a euphoric release of all the pent up emotions we have been holding in since the start of this quarantine. After that first initial play through of the single, the deep and emotional meaning of the lyrics began to stand out clearly. According to Alex Vasiloff [singer], the song touches on “...living and trying to grow in a confusing, unforgiving world. And, not knowing where or who to turn to when you’re overwhelmed with life’s curveballs. The song’s namesake comes from wanting to hide and escape from this world, but knowing there will be someone to show you love and appreciation.”
This song is quite literally a perfect representation of our feelings about what is going on with the current state of the world. The pandemic has thrown everyone this metaphorical curveball, it affecting certain people more than others, leaving us in a disoriented state of mind. In the end, we know we’re not going through this alone and that when this has finished, we will have someone there to support us and stand strong together.

‘Cover Me’ begins with an early 2000’s punk-rock-esque vibe as we are struck with a heavy guitar riff and hard-hitting rhythmic drum pattern, having us on edge and preparing us for when the vocals slide in. Shortly after, the angsty vocal styling comes in with the lyrics “Look what you found: A new sound, weighted heavy-set. Stop fuckin’ around, and calm down, come down and cover me,” practically having us jumping and starting a mosh pit around our rooms. It felt like I could have a one-person concert within my own home, while still managing to find the raw meaning of this track.
Although the single is made up of mostly punk-rock undertones, as we reach the chorus it introduces a softer side of the track, showing us the deeper meaning of the single, only to then make a steady incline towards the breakdown, where we quite literally...lost our shit.
The personal struggle of feeling overwhelmed in a world full of chaos that Eerie Shores emphasizes in ‘Cover Me’ gets the listeners attention right away, as it seems like a common feeling we are all sharing at the moment. This allows all of us to build a personal connection to the song, as we finally feel understood, making it much more meaningful.
The track concludes with the lyric “I told you so” and a single fading guitar strum, giving us an eerie yet euphoric feeling and leaving us with our jaws dropped.

Overall, ‘Cover Me’ gives us insight on the feeling of being lost in a big world with rapidly expanding chaos, and allows those of us experiencing this feeling to know that we are not alone, we can make it out of this dark, lonely bubble together. Being that we are amidst s*icide prevention month, Eerie Shores does an immaculate job of emphasizing and bringing awareness to this message of although you may feel alone, we hear you and we will get through this together. These New York natives deserve more recognition for the way they use their platform and their music as a way to recognize individuals who struggle with their mental health, helping them feel understood. Along with the important meaning of this track, the intricate, angsty, and emotional structure of this song is a perfect release of the pent up rage we have gained amidst the chaos of Covid-19.
