Self-acclaimed ‘Brass Emo’, Millington releases their cover filled EP  “Brass Emo, Vol 1.” The album features cover tracks from Trash Boat, My Chemical Romance, Dashboard Confessional, and more. Millington perfectly accomplishes a hype-filled cover album featuring various artists and surprising tracks.

The album opens with a cover of “Strangers” by Trash Boat. The cover features vocals from Call Me Malcolm, a ska group from the UK. The cover is far different from the original as it features more horns and a ska-like sound. The track brings on a great introduction to the EP and gives the audience a taste of what to expect for the next tracks. “Look What Happened” follows which is a song by Less Than Jake. The cover features Half Past Two, a ska band from Orange County, California. The two groups work well together to cover a classic ska track. The song gives off the early 2000’s influence, which perfects the track even more. The following single “Vindicated” by Dashboard Confessional is one of the slower, emotional tracks on the EP. The use of horns in the track, which makes the cover very unique, adds a ska feel to it. The ska influence to a mainly pop-punk track not only shows the use of blending genres but also adds Millington’s owns twist.
Following “Vindicated” arrives Millington’s cover of “The Ghost of You” by My Chemical Romance. The cover begins with a subtle guitar tuning following a mix of Millington’s vocalist Cody and additional vocals by Emily Mitchell. Both vocals flow together nicely and add an emotional touch to the track. “XO” by Fall Out Boy follows which continues to have the same pop-punk inspiration while also having Millington's influence. “XO” is an ideal track for Millington to cover as it already has pop-punk elements and adding a ska element just perfected it.

Lastly, “Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town” by THE DU is the song that closes the EP. “Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town” is the theme song for the fourth season of the popular anime series ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.’ To my surprise, the cover is entirely in Japanese. The original track already features a funky, disco sound, and Millington captures that vibe while also adding their own twist. The cover itself was perfectly done and Millington did a fantastic job adding their own influence to it.

All in all, “Brass Emo, Vol 1” is an amazing cover EP that features various artists and surprising song choices. From tracks ranging from pop-punk to ska to anime themes, Millington did an excellent job of choosing which songs to cover. To each of their own, the tracks had their own unique sound and Millington managed to keep that while also incorporating their own taste. To summarize, Millington definitely hit the nail with this EP and is worth checking out. By far, the stand-out covers are “The Ghost of You” and “Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town.” With this being the first volume of covers, we hope to hear many more from Millington!
