New York-area-based pop-punk group Smooth Brain have today self-released their forceful new single, “Over Again (Over Again).” The new track can be found on streaming platforms HERE.
The song catalogues the true story of vocalist Izzy Gunn’s house burning down at age 15. “This is the most personal I've ever gotten with my writing,” Gunn shares. “I'm always writing about my experiences, but this time it's about the worst experience of my life.”
“When my house burned down I was the one who discovered it and got my family out. I was diagnosed with PTSD after experiencing this trauma, and this song is from the perspective that I had during that time,” she continues. “I replayed the sequence of events of the day my house burned down in my head for over a year constantly.”

The new record, which features “Over Again (Over Again)” and March single "No Pressure", was produced, mixed, and mastered by Hansel Romero, the frontperson and producer of Baltimore soulpunk band nightlife. Romero – who also has production and writing credits with Pinkshift, Stray From The Path, Loveless, and more – also co-wrote the emotional new Smooth Brain song and full EP.

About Smooth Brain
In the face of the adversity and hostility enveloping our global community, reactions tend to skew toward the extremes: escapist joy or full-steam-ahead revolution. Smooth Brain is asking the question: Why not both?
The pop-punk quintet from the tri-state area is fighting the oppression of LGBTQ people by proving not only that they exist, but that they are not going anywhere anytime soon. They are forging community through impassioned songs about love and heartbreak; confusion and nostalgia; queer joy and pure rage. To the band, those last two go hand in hand – nothing could be more in the spirit of rebellion than dancing and singing together. That’s the most crucial part: unity. Whether at a show or at home, it’s all about the music and the community … the togetherness of it all.
Borne of community itself, Smooth Brain formed when NYC alternative scene members met with old high school classmates and TikTok mutuals. Once together, vocalist Izzy Gunn (she/her), guitarist Hera Andre-Bergmann (she/her), guitarist Ben Schaare (he/him), bassist Maryn Czajkowski (she/her), and drummer Jordan Mel (he/they) realized they all had a shared vision of healing people through music.
