PINKSHIFT RELEASES THEIR NEW CUTTING-EDGE SINGLE "NOTHING (IN MY HEAD)"
The month began with the Baltimore band Pinkshift releasing the best song of their career, so far. “nothing (in my head)” is the trio’s first single since being signed to Hopeless Records. Their career is really taking off, considering they have just completed their first overseas tour in the U.K and are opening for Bayside next month, and it is well deserved. The band is getting ready to take over the world, and have an incredibly bright future if they continue to put out music as good as their newest single.
Pinkshift is an angsty rock group consisting of Paul Vallejo, Myron Houngbedji, and singer Ashrita Kumar. Their previous sound is a mix of a few alternative styles, but could best be described as pop punk, or even post hardcore. Whatever their music is - it’s always an angsty, fiery sound. Their signature sound can still be heard in their new single, but amped up making for a heavier song.

The band, Ashrita specifically, has stated on social media they frequently listen to and are influenced by grunge music of the 90’s. That influence is prevalent when listening to “nothing (in my head), but they keep it fresh without ripping off any of that older sound. The song's rhythm, the small breakdowns, and the epic guitar solo may be the best aspects of this song

The song is about the need for a mental escape after feeling numb and trapped. Along with being a heavier tone than what we’ve previously heard from Pinkshift, the song is darker lyrically, as well; one of the lines found in the beginning of the track being “...never knew a dark room could be so nice”. Their lyrics, as always with Pinkshift’s writing, are still so wonderfully angry with many parts to scream along to.
