The eclectic math rock trio Covet has just wrapped up their most recent US headlining tour in support of their newest album “catharsis.” Supporting them throughout the run were artists altopalo and Scarypoolparty. On the final leg of the run, the tour came through Austin and played an electrifying show at the Historic Scoot Inn.

Altopalo opened the show with an energizing performance that got the crowd off their feet. Vocalist Rahm Silverglade captivates with incredible vocals and an enthusiastic stage presence. Band members Mike Haldeman, Dillon Treacy, and Jesse Bielenberg—on guitar, bass, and drums, respectively—showcase their musical talents by integrating elements from genres such as R&B, electronica, and ambiance to create a sound that is energizing yet simultaneously grounding. Together, the group creates the powerhouse that is altopalo and leaves audiences wishing for a longer set.

Scarypoolparty is the stage name of Alejandro Aranda, the singer, musician, and runner-up on the seventeenth season of American Idol. Despite his gracing the stage with only himself and his guitar, Aranda proved that the old proverb “less is more” rings true. With dim mood lighting and his powerful vocals, Scarypoolparty sent waves of energy through the crowd and caused an eruption of cheers, praise, and love from fans and audience members, and even from those in the photo pit.

Covet is an electrifying band that creates music of the exploratory math rock and dreamscape genres. The trio is composed of guitarist Yvette Young, bassist Brandon Dove, and drummer Jessica Burdeaux. Despite being an instrumental band, the group captivates audiences with Young’s unique finger-tapping style and the band’s upbeat and energetic sound. As the tour was named the catharsis. tour, the band played the namesake album in its entirety, as well as a few other tracks from their discography. For fans of the bands such as Polyphia and Chon, Covet provides a more experimental sound that still scratches any itch for math rock.

Catharsis is the process of releasing and providing relief from strong or repressed emotions. It is safe to say that all three artists provided the audience with an outlet for movement, whether it be head nodding or dancing, love, and positive energy. altopalo, Scarypoolparty, and Covet are each a powerhouse in their own rights, but, collectively, the artists collaboratively put on an energizing show and made for an unforgettable, fun, and electrifying Saturday night in Austin, TX.
