“When it comes to Extortionist, you think crime—you think gritty, raw, merciless and unsavory and maybe, just maybe, a little sprinkling of suaveness.”
The Idaho heavy rock band, Extortionist, has once again come out with a release, this time it’s a 4-track EP titled ‘Devoid.’ Leading up to the release of their new EP, the band has been releasing singles for listeners to get an early look into the album, such as the single and music video they released on November 16th titled ‘A Grim Disconnect.’
This EP opens up with the teasing single originally released by the band on October 24, titled ‘Out of Touch.’ Since this is a previously released single, I won’t say much and allow for those reading this to go on and listen to it along with the music video, which we hope you do. This song was my first impression of the band, having listenedto this allowed me to understand the connection between the type of music that Extortionist releases and the attempt to connect to their audiences. Following this, we have the aforementioned single that was most recently released, ‘A Grim Disconnect.’ This song, also having a music video, is a very moving song with a message regarding a time when you’re not feeling like yourself, which many feel during this holiday season.
The following two are new released from the band, the third song in their EP being titled ‘Stockholm.’ Finally, Extortionist closes out this new EP with a great closing song that demonstrates the ability of the band which is titled ‘Drained Of Life.’ Loud music with a range of diverse melodys throughout songs is a staple of heavy metal music, but somehow it is once again made unique by Extortionist through this EP, managing to keep a signature sound without being repetitive.
‘Devoid’ is only a taste of the musical talent and passion expressed by Extortionist, we have no doubt that there’s much more to come. Their new EP is out now on all streaming platforms, we recommend it… as well as their other albums!
