The time for nostalgia has come, songs with long titles that are reminiscent of the 90s are back, all thanks to Jassin Gharib. For those of you who are just now hearing the name Jassin Gharib now, let me give you a rundown of who this artist is and why you should add them to your playlists. Gharib is a 27-year-old artist and storyteller who uses music as their artistic medium, drawing influences from some of our favorites like The Killers. Gharib credits the twitter community and their welcoming behavior towards Black and POC artists and shows their gratitude for the community with their music.

Their latest release, a single titled “i don’t have coworkers, i have undiagnosed adhd and a superiority complex,” is an ode to the feeling that you might not be suitable for the relationships you crave. As far as the melody goes, the single fits the aesthetic of a 90s/early 2000s song with a long title and relatable lyrics, the pop-punk vibe of the single throws us back to this time and makes us reflect on our old punk playlists.

Throughout the song we see a story form, beginning with Gharib’s acceptance of who they are, labeling themselves as a “bad loser” and stating that they are “annoying most of the time.” Through this acceptance, we see Gharib continue the story by stating that they lack self-awareness, showing a well-known battle we have in our mind, knowing who we are, but not yet realizing we can’t communicate. Gharib tells their own story through their music, but I know many of you will find comfort in the ability to relate to this feeling. “I don’t have coworkers, i have undiagnosed adhd and a superiority complex” is the anthem for the people who feel they aren’t meant to be in relationships.

We’re big fans of Jassin Gharib and can’t wait for their future releases, I can only imagine how many more stories they have to tell. Their latest single is out now on all streaming platforms. Go give it a listen!
