The long awaited return of well-known emo group Michael Cera Palin is upon us. The group announced their return with the release date of ‘We Could Be Brave’, their new LP, and a single to tease the music we’ll get in the aforementioned LP. The lead single, titled ‘Wisteria’ was released today, after listening, I can guarantee that it will get you excited and counting down the days for their new music.

Michael Cera Palin, which consists of singer-guitarist Elliott Brabant, bassist Jon Williams, and drummer Chad Miller, has a signature sound, which doesn’t disappear with their new music, in fact, it stays to make you feel nostalgic. Their original sound, which, if you haven’t heard, is reminiscent of early midwest emo tracks we have loved for a long time, stays strong in this new single.

This song is poetic, a story of loving someone, getting lost in them, and feeling like you have no control over it. Comparing this love to that of wisteria plants in bloom, calling it a lovely ‘unwell shade of blue,’ a metaphor for a love you want to be good. ‘Wisteria’ almost sounds like  an apology for trying so hard to stay where you were, for feeling nostalgic, and for ‘keeping them up’ with their thoughts. The imagery in this single is one that will surely make you feel seen if you’ve dealt with a similar relationship, a trend we hope to see continue in their upcoming album.

As a long time fan of Michael Cera Palin, I definitely recommend you take a listen to this new single and their previously released stuff. I’m excited to see how they follow the release of this single and where we’ll see them next. As of now, their new single ‘Wisteria’ is out on all streaming platforms, and their new LP, ‘We Could Be Brave’ will be released on March 7 with their new label, Brain Synthesizer.
