The California grunge-type duo, Raue (Roo-ay), is testament to the gen-z muse and social media influence, having amassed a large following through Tik Tok. The duo, formed of vocalist/guitarist Paige Kalenian and drummer Jax Huckle, have over 5 million streams and have achieved so much at their young age. The southern California band shows that they’re here to stay by announcing a new single and an upcoming album. Their most recent release is the new single titled ‘Escape’.
The best way I can describe the vibe of ‘Escape’ is to highlight the comforting voice of Kalenian, which complements the drumming talent of Huckle very well. Kalenian shares that she wants this EP to feel like it removes a mask from the artist and makes them relatable, and if ‘Escape’ is just a taste of what we’re getting in the EP, we’re in store for some very passionate and real emotions. The goal to make an emotional song about loving was met, beginning with a melody reminiscent of a lullaby. Raue fulfilled this by adding their comforting touch to it at the start of the song and then ramping it up when they arrived at the chorus.
“[...]it is a paradoxical track that explores the simultaneously euphoric and devastating emotions that love can create.”
As always, when we enjoy a band, we wish them the best and excitedly wait to see what their next move is and how they’ll shape the future of music. Personally, I have high hopes for gen-z and Raue is a small portion of the music this generation is giving us! Make sure to listen to ‘Escape’ out now, and check out ‘too scared to explain’, their EP out later this year.
