Youth Fountain, a pop-punk project from Vancouver, BC,  has released their extraordinary third studio album, “Together In Lonesome.”  Bursting with attention-grabbing hooks, powerful riffs, and heavy drums, the 12-track record vocalizes the hardships of life and provides comfort in knowing that you aren’t alone in your adversities.  The high-energy artwork has a nostalgic feel to it, incorporating the classic pop-punk and emo sounds we know and love, but twisting it into something completely new.

Tyler Zanon, the guitarist and vocalist behind Youth Fountain, does an incomparable job at taking the life experience and turning the discomfort into head-banging, pit-starting anthems.  In contrast to the vigorous and powerful melodies in the record, the lyrics are much more fragile, yet powerful all the same. Zanon verbalizes the emotions many of us are too afraid to. The feelings of hopelessness and desperation are prominent throughout the album and the inclusion of this helps to remind us that we aren’t alone in the world.

The first track on the record, “What Tomorrow Brings,” is a short one, reaching a little under thirty seconds in length.  Regardless of its duration, this track leaves an impression on your soul. The fast-paced, high-energy melody sets the tone for the rest of the album. With unforgettable guitar and heavy-hitting drums, the pace gets faster and faster, before stopping altogether. Reminding you to, “live to see what tomorrow brings,” the song fills you with excitement and anticipation of what the rest of the record has in store.

With each track, each hearty riff, and fiery hook, you feel your heart beat a little faster.  The energy of each melody and the drums that help to stabilize your mind create the perfect environment to jump around.  This is a large disparity compared to the melancholy feeling you get in your chest from listening to the lyrics.  The words sung give you a sense of comfort and welcome you into a feeling of community.

The final track, “Together in Lonesome,” is also the title track of the record.  It begins with acoustic guitar at the forefront and Zanon’s softer vocals send shivers down your spine as he sings about loneliness and the anguish he experiences.  The song picks up quickly, with heartfelt drums as a backbone and soulful riffs and hooks following.  You can hear the emotion in the track, which only increases the effect it has as it stays in your brain, even after it finishes.

Youth Fountain is currently on tour with Story of the Year, and will be on the road until early next year.  Traveling across the country and visiting nearly 40 cities nationwide, the tour will be concluding on Jan. 26 in Chicago
