After leaving rock group Roseburg, Zach Knell announced his new project under the alias of Righteous Punk. Knell recently released his debut single “Maybe I Should Move to California.” Now, Knell is adventuring on his own journey with the release of his debut solo EP “The Boy in White.”
The opening track “A Tree, A Punk, 2 Masks, A Dove” displays Knell’s new, charming sound and relatable lyrics. The track discusses the previous year and the struggles of settling into quarantine. The track ties well with Knell’s debut single “Maybe I Should Move to California” as he struggles with finding his identity.

Growing up in Utah, Knell found himself wondering for a new start and new life. Struggling to find himself in Roseburg and Utah, he left to find himself. “Maybe I Should Move to California” is a perfect track to describe the frustrations of unsureness on knowing where to go but being aware a change is needed.
The next track “Rogue Valley” opens a different sound for Knell. “Rogue Valley” opens beautifully as an acoustic ballad filled with tear-jerking lyrics. Knell brings back the message of trying to find his place in an environment where he cannot grow.
However, he has the comfort of his friends to bring him to his true home. The track fades out and transitions into “Billie and Finneas' ' Alluding to the lifestyle and success of Billie Ellish and Finneas, Knell wishes to have their life and understand the rich, musical world.

Lastly, the final track “Wildcat” offers an ode to Knell’s journey. He discusses that everything will be okay and he has the support of those around him. The journey of starting over is hard and won’t be easy. However, “Wildcat” provides a sense of security that everything will be okay.

“The Boy in White” is a beautiful, reflective EP that discusses various topics of coming clean with your emotions and starting fresh. Knell’s project Righteous Punk not only exhibits his progression in lyricism but also storytelling. Knell tells his story of finding himself and taking a step forward in his life.
