WATCH OUT FOR DANGEROUS DUO, THE LOOKOUT SERVICE AND THEIR NEW SINGLE "SHUT ME OUT"

Picture
Formed in the winter of 2018, Toronto duo Stergios Kalochoridis and Robert Ragazzo are The Lookout Service. True to their roots, The Lookout Service has the raucous sound of the underground Toronto indie scene, but their newest single, Shut Me Out, gives listeners a riveting experience they’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere.

Shut Me Out kicks off with a gradual buildup of bold vocals and guitar courtesy of Kalochoridis before Ragazzo subtly joins in with some high hat action. From there the two quickly rev up and plunge into a call and response type sequence highlighting some killer licks that will remind an attentive listener of improvisational live jazz or blues.

After an explosive ride through the chorus, a quiet interlude draws you back to earth. Much like the intro, there's a gradual buildup after the trilling interlude as well. “Just know that your future and your friends they’re all so pointless and plain / you’re still gonna lose the ones you love” are just part of the chilling lyrics that draw you back into another, more intense, raging call and response sequence that beautifully expresses the relationship between the duo. It truly feels as though you can see the smiles on their faces as they playfully egg each other on. Not only does it demonstrate each of their individual talent and skill but it also shows off the chemistry between the two and their personalities. It feels less like a performance and more like they’re playing together for the pure joy of it.

This is the type of song you’ll want to blast with your windows down as it's getting dark outside or through headphones that will highlight the intensity of the bass. The behemoth sound in Shut Me Out is on par with tracks like Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys or 7 Nation Army by The White Stripes. It has that powerful, driving beat and guitar that you feel deep in your chest when you hear a song live and occasionally through streaming if you’re lucky.
The carefully crafted flow of this song exhibits an impressive knowledge of how to maintain the attention of an audience through the entire song and not just at one or two snappy places. The whole composition of the song quickly builds an energy that drives you forward and would undoubtedly drive a crowd into a push pit with plenty of chaotic roughhousing and dancing. Shut Me Out is an intense track that effortlessly leaves listeners hanging on every note and craving more when it's over.
Lucky for us, The Lookout Service’s debut EP is set to release some time later this year. Stay tuned to this dangerous duo and give Shut Me Out a listen today!
