TRASH BOAT TACKLES HOMOPHOBIA, BIGOTRY, AND SEXUALITY IN THEIR NEW SINGLE "HE'S SO GOOD"
British pop-punk band Trash Boat is back and has made 2021 better than ever! Trash Boat released their last single ‘Synthetic Sympathy’ back in 2019. Now, these UK trailblazers made their comeback with their vigorous and passionate track ‘He’s So Good.’ On top of that, the British band released a music video to go along with their explosive single.
The track opens with vocalist Tobi Duncan’s riveting vocals that transition into heavy drumming. The incredible instrumentals give an awakening sensation that adds to the powerful lyrics. The lyrics speak on the topic of sexuality and identity through the perspective of an unsafe environment. Tobi discusses how he identifies as not straight and always had a healthy relationship with those around him. In an interview with Kerrang, He stated that he understands his experience differs from the norm, but he still speaks directly to the community that you’re not alone in this journey. Tobi speaks on the track as “This is about reminding people that they’re not responsible for other people’s prejudices.” |
On top of that, Trash Boat released a music video to go along with their vivid track. The music videos show themes of being trapped, silenced, and scared. Various individuals are shown with family, partners, or alone. Range of emotions are presented from anger to sadness to compassion. The sharp, omnipotent lyrics bring the music video to a melodramatic sequence. The heart-wrenching lyrics of “His father so austere, his boy is a fucking queer” emphasizes the emotion behind the track.
As the music video continues to play out, individuals are shielding themselves or drowning under the bath. In addition, they’re also screaming-yet their silence is so loud. The lyric “He's so good when he talks to his mother/She found out that we were lovers/His father disappeared like he was never here/It makes me want to scream” blatantly corresponds to the emotions displayed.
Towards the end of the track, many of the individuals are embraced with love and compassion. The video fades out and presents a message of not being alone and not being the cause of someone’s harmful beliefs. Trash Boat flashes hotline numbers for those in need of them. Organizations are also listed at the end for anyone, as well.
In short, Trash Boat released an impressive and connective track. Tobi opens up about his experience coming out but shifts the conversation to those with a separate experience. Through deep and rich lyrics, Tobi was able to convey the message that this journey will not be fought alone. ‘He’s So Good’ has all the right elements to an unforgettable pop-punk track with heavy, sharp lyrics. On top of that, the music video brings the track to a superb level by demonstrating raw emotions and impressive lyricism. If you haven’t already, check out ‘He’s So Good’ on all streaming platforms!
