THE VENUS IN SCORPIO DELIVERS THE ESSENCE OF EMPOWERMENT AND SELF LOVE WITH "Blissed" RELEASE
9/9/20 Written By Lou Watson
Synth Pop artist Maxim Faster, famously known as “The Venus In Scorpio” released their newest track “Blissed” on August 18th, and gave us whiplash as we teleported to the 80’s. Venus In Scorpio describes themselves as “mysterious and moody they next door” and uses their music as an outlet to send their unapologetic message of self-empowerment, liberation, and sex-positivity. Venus continues to break boundaries and binaries through their music, but also through their identity as a queer and agender person in the music industry. This track is a catalyst to summarize the struggles and completion of learning to love themselves. |
“Blissed is a triumph over the struggles of learning to love yourself. Once you learn to love yourself enough to stop focusing only on yourself you’re able to come together with other people and celebrate under the same sun, experiencing each other’s joy and being a part of the universal recovery and evolution of humanity”

This electrifying track immediately struck me with Prince 80s pop-synth vibes with a hint of David Bowie glam rock. The beginning of Blissed begins with “The revolution has come.” mixed with the new wave, glam rock, and synth really set the tone for the rest of the track. It’s reminiscent of a song that one would be on the soundtrack to liberating queer film/documentary such as “POSE” or “Paris Is Burning.” Or maybe flooding the streets during Pride and remembering the StoneWall Riots and the trans women risked their lives for lgbtq+ rights. But also feels very light-hearted, something Baby would dance around in her room to in Dirty Dancing.
This song fully breaks the conventions of the genre. The vocals remains more deep, yet androgynous and erotic, even when the rest of the track is more pop-inspired and very stylish. They even added a bit of a guitar piece in the midst of the song, really cramping that bowie-esque glam rock sound in the jam-packed genre bending song.
