Wave Break Release Their Latest Single Ahead Of The New EP

Wave Break frontwoman Kelly Barber has always been the alt rock band’s driving force. Now “Manic Dreams” is here to bring that force home.

Coming out on the 13th August, “Manic Dreams” is the latest single from Wave Break and the second of two singles introducing their new EP (the first, “Chemical Burns” is already available to stream). The song opens with a catchy guitar riff to hook you before the drums and vocals kick in and you begin to feel the true depth of emotion behind this band. While the instrumentals are punchy, almost upbeat, the lyrics and vocals have a sweet melancholy with Barber promising “I am stronger than I seem.”

According to their website, Wave Break has a “long and complicated” history - even being whittled down to just a single member at one point. But instead of giving up, Barber decided to push forward on her own, forming a “one woman rock band.” In 2018, the newly thriving band released their debut EP “Armory” and they quickly found support from outlets such as idobi Radio and New Noise Magazine before going on to tour the northeast US, performing alongside various artists including Boys of Fall, Secrets, and Kulick.

And they weren’t ready to stop there. Throughout 2020, Barber was hard at work on Wave Break’s follow-up EP, due out in fall 2021. The record blends a range of elements, taking inspiration from artists such as Avril Lavigne, Acceptance and Rise Against to form a unique brand of melodic alternative rock.

“Manic Dreams” is emblematic of the new EP, showcasing how the band utilises punchy instrumentation, dynamic vocals and melancholic lyrics. It is an ode to never giving up and never backing down in which Barber shows off her vocal range, holding notes with a swell of guitar and drums behind her.

There’s also an accompanying music video for the new single which can be found on the band’s YouTube. The video cuts between shots of the band performing their hearts out and shots of Baber encountering a stalker in the park. Tension rises when she’s followed home but everything builds to a very satisfying conclusion as the song trails off.
