Heavensgate Push Metal’s Boundaries with ‘A Heart Is A Heavy Burden’
Heavensgate, the Australian based metal-band, has released their newest EP, 'A Heart Is A Heavy Burden' via Pure Noise Records. The band, composed of Aki Vickneswaran, David Wilder, Caleb Kotsanis, and Nazareth Tharatt, mentions that their next chapter “showcases their signature blend of crushing intensity and raw emotion.”
In a few years, the band has managed to come far managing the release of their second EP this year, with their first single, ‘CHEMICAL HEAVEN,’ released in 2022, and their first EP, ‘ALL I LOVED, I LOVED ALONE’ released only a year later in 2023. Heavensgate is all about bringing their own sound and influence to the traditional metal sound, something we see as they continue to push boundaries and make a name for themselves.
The new EP showcases six songs, three of which were previously released alongside their respective music videos – all which I recommend you watch. These three previously released singles, ‘OBLIVION,’ ‘RAIN,’ and ‘PETRICHOR,’ while all having their unique sounds, follow a theme of grief, loss, and the feeling once faced with a form of rejection. Of the three, ‘PETRICHOR’ takes a different approach with a more mellow melody, capturing the numbness following loss, with lyrics such as “A world where love persists // I see no place for me.”
Besides having three previously released singles on the album, this EP actually opens up with a new song titled ‘BURDEN OF BEING.’The song follows the classic metal sound and follows the theme of rejection and disappointment. The EP then follows this with the three previously released singles aforementioned, then we get ‘DARLING BLUE.’ This song follows the theme of ‘PETRICHOR’ by steering away from the hard metal sounds and touching on a softer tone to address a different sound that comes with loss. The inclusion of different sounds in the same EP allows audiences a peek into the talented range and out-of-the-box thinking of Heavensgate. To close off the album, we get to hear ‘A FAWN FLAYED,’ a return to the metal sound and is accompanied by a surprise video.
If you’re a fan of Heavensgate, you’re in luck! The band is out on tour from October 24th to November 30th, exploring major American cities alongside Like Moths to Flames. Kingdom of Giants, and Acres. Their new EP, ‘A Heart Is A Heavy Burden,’ is out now on all streaming platforms, we hope you enjoy this as much as we have!
