REVIEW: Penny Bored Releases Electric New Single: "Conversations"
As someone who has had the pleasure of speaking to Faith Alesia, I can assure you their talent and their personality is very well depicted in their work. The proof of both of these aspects is in their music, under the name Penny Bored, Alesia releases music that contains passion, fun, and honest lyrics about the realities of life. Penny Bored, who had 3 single releases last year, has recently come out with their newest single ‘Conversations’, which according to Alesia:
"'Conversations' was inspired by the motions of social anxiety. I constantly catch myself practicing how I will face confrontation or even day-to-day small talk. We can’t script out a perfect dialogue to follow and often there will always be thoughts that aren’t shared with the world in the way we anticipated whether it’s caused by interruption, lack of communication, or insecurities. Later in the song, I discuss the importance of taking the time to focus on ourselves to make the decisions we are happy with."
The new single begins with a very clear pop punk music from the early 2000s, reminiscent of artists like Avril Lavigne— who Alesia claims to be an inspiration. A completely different melody from their previous release ‘Gemini’, however, the emotion of both singles is very clear in both their melodies and their lyrics. ‘Gemini’, in contrast to ‘Conversations’ was a lot more personal to Alesia which added a lot of genuine emotion, in this new single, we see them apply the same genuine emotion and generalizing the experience in order to help us relate to an emotion and not feel like we’re alone in it.
‘Conversations’ tells the story of the words that are left unsaid in your mind, I’m sure many of us have experienced the feeling of fear when it comes to not expressing enough or not saying something, Alesia helps us explore it. They also discuss the feeling of not really being known, after all if words are left unsaid, how will anyone really know you?
This song, along with its breakdown of what it feels like to fear being yourself due to the treatment of others, is incredible. I’ve had the privilege of hearing it multiple times, even added the single to a couple of my playlists, and I hope you get to do the same!
Penny Bored has proven their talent over the past year, shown in their growth and attention, we can’t wait to report on what they do next. For now, make sure to stream ‘Conversations’ on your preferred streaming application, and maybe check out some of their old singles too!
