Sir Echo Ruminates and Releases on Their Unrelenting New Single “Bubblegum”

Torn between worlds, New York’s Sir Echo comes to life-altering decisions — both in their career and in their single, “Bubblegum.” However, the group isn’t cracking under pressure; signing to Equal Vision Records has only fueled their fire.

“Bubblegum” begins as a whisper and then erupts into controlled chaos. A heartbeat steadily introduces listeners to vocalist Amelia Allen’s dynamic range and lyrical sensibility. Turns of phrase abound but are never so distracting that they pull focus from the arena-ready instrumentals.

Conceptually, the track details the throes of a difficult breakup. The lyrics follow an argument between lovers, told from the perspective of a narrator who is gaining the courage to leave. Based on the sonic context, it seems that our anti-hero — who is facing a slew of accusations — does eventually find the strength to leave an environment that is no longer serving her, a lesson we all could benefit from.

A combination of high-concept storytelling and cathartic instrumentals makes “Bubblegum” a captivating listen from start to finish. Sir Echo are masterful musicians; if they aren’t on your “ones to watch” lists now, they should be.
