FOOTBALLHEAD ANNOUNCES SOPHOMORE LP ‘WEIGHT OF THE TRUTH’ ALONGSIDE LEAD SINGLE “USED TO BE”

Footballhead are far removed from their early start as Ryan Nolen’s humble solo project. Now, the Chicago/SoCal hybrids embrace their quirks, allowing them to carry their sound farther with each new release. “Used To Be” stands tall as the lead single for their sophomore release, Weight of the Truth

This track is much heavier than the band’s earlier work — both sonically and lyrically. Here, they’re at their most introspective, attempting to understand the core parts of themselves that have shifted over time. As the chorus roars, “this is not how I used to be,” the sentiment lands with unfiltered force.

Even the best of us confront versions of ourselves we don’t recognize anymore, and Footballhead captures that tension without melodrama. Nolen positions himself as an antihero in this track, “letting (his) ego death bloom,” while the band’s melodic sensibilities give space for gritty 2000s-leaning riffs to flourish in a modern context.

With “Used To Be” as their lead single, Footballhead prepares for a promising sophomore rollout, effortlessly evading the infamous slump.
