Rage in the Middle: UnityTX’s Somewhere, In Between… Balances Fury and Vulnerability

Since their formation in 2014, Dallas outfit UnityTX have carved out a distinct identity by fusing metal aggression with hip-hop rhythms and electronic textures. The band has consistently pushed genre boundaries, helping pioneer a style that has become increasingly popular in recent years. Their newest album, Somewhere, In Between…, reflects both that ambition and a lingering sense of frustration at not receiving the recognition they feel they deserve.

Right out of the gate, Somewhere, In Between… wastes no time establishing its tone. Screaming vocals, crushing riffs, and explosive energy dominate the album, making the band’s rage and resentment impossible to ignore. That emotional intensity becomes one of the record’s defining traits. However, the album isn’t built on screaming alone. At several points, UnityTX mix rap and hip-hop vocal delivery with heavy rock instrumentation, creating a fusion that adds variety to the record’s sound. A good example of this is “Lucid,” which blends aggressive screams, rap-influenced vocals, and heavy guitar work into a chaotic yet controlled burst of energy.

The album then shifts with “Paranoia,” one of its most intense tracks. Its rock-leaning instrumentation and forceful vocals make the anger behind the lyrics hit hard. When the song asks, “why you acting like you're better off without me, baby? Ain’t nobody out to hurt you, that’s just paranoia,” the tension and emotional turmoil at the center of the track erupt. Following this, “Ready 2 Die Pt. 2” is a jarring listen, confronting themes of suicide, abandonment, and emotional neglect with blunt, unsettling honesty. The lyric, “who gives a f*ck the day I’m not around,” underscores the song’s despair, offering one of the album’s most vulnerable moments.

On “In Between…,” listeners hear the line, “Are you doing fine, are you in-between it all?” The track reflects on the struggle of picking yourself back up after falling, providing a rare moment of reflection amid the album’s darker themes. In that sense, it offers a small glimmer of hope on a record otherwise defined by personal struggle, frustration, and raw emotional intensity.

Overall, Somewhere, In Between… is a record fueled by anger, relentless, unfiltered, and unapologetic. It is easy to see the appeal for listeners who connect with its intensity. The aggression feels purposeful, aimed at anyone who feels like they’ve been dealt a rough hand, and needs a sonic push to keep going. UnityTX channel frustration into high-energy, cathartic music, and for the right audience, that raw emotion can be as motivating as it is loud.

In carving out this sound, UnityTX have established a unique place for themselves in the alternative music scene, balancing metal, hip-hop, and electronic influences in a way that is unmistakably their own.
