Super Sometimes Announce New Album, ‘Show The World What’s Underneath,’ And Lead Single, “Afterthought”

Full of unbridled conviction, San Diego heavy-hitters Super Sometimes are back with a new full-length album on the way. Show The World What’s Underneath is the group’s sophomore record, and its lead single, “Afterthought,” cements Super Sometimes as ones-to-watch. Their vocal delivery, melodic sensibility, and lyrical honesty supersede foundations laid by former generations of sub-genre heroes.

“Afterthought” begins as a whisper and ends in a reflective bang. Super Sometimes are super self-aware; they maintain a bit of pop-punk pessimism, but they do so gracefully. There are elements of resentment sprinkled throughout, yet Super Sometimes hesitates to take low blows at the person who hurt them. Instead, they took action differently: cutting ties cleanly is, occasionally, the best way to move forward.

The single provides a promising jumpstart to Super Sometimes’s sophomore release. They aren’t new to this; instead, their time between record releases has helped the group tighten their inherent chemistry. Now, their confidence is earned, rather than contrived. Paradoxically, their fear of becoming an “afterthought” is slim to none, given the way they’ve polished some of their rougher edges.

If anything, Super Sometimes reminds its audiences that love shouldn’t feel like a competition. Vying for someone’s attention will always leave you thinking you’re merely a footnote in their life. However, once you find worth within yourself, magic emerges, much like in the power chords punching through the choruses of “Afterthought.”
